Free Game

Why is free game play so popular?

This morning I got to thinking about playing a free game and why it would be so popular other than the fact that they are free.

How did I get to thinking about this? Well I got woke up early this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep… so as I sat there watching television and I thought to myself, “Self, why do people like playing a free game?”

It’s funny, this wasn’t exactly the question I thought I ever would be asking myself, but here I am nonetheless trying to ponder the question to pass the time and fall back asleep.

So I know people love playing free games because they are free but there is more than that… As I got to thinking about it – these free games offer people a way to escape their boring life, pass the time, or have some fun.

I know I use free games alot on my really cool iphone! Especially “Angry Birds” where you get to launch birds at structures and make them come falling down.

Honestly a free game is all about personal enjoyment. And when you have a “free game” you enjoy it more because you didn’t have to pay for it. So I’d have to say in my ramblings to try and get myself to sleep right now – a free game is about ultimate enjoyment!

Now I’m going to attempt to go back to sleep for a few more hours on my day off. Hope you have a great day!

Oh Yeah, almost forgot… for all of you that are not sure what this site is about – toothpicktrader.com is a free game too! We start the game with a toothpick and begin trading items with other people and in 90 days we compare with the other players to see who has the highest valued item. The person with the highest valued item wins, gets cool prizes, and gets to keep whatever they traded to.

The World Is Ending By The Rapture?

In the news there is a prophecy looming among us that this may be the beginning to the end of the world due to the ‘Rapture’. You can learn more about the Rapture here at MSNBC.

I guess even the CDC (Centers for the disease control and prevention) is getting prepared even for “Zombies”!

Social Media: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse

.

OK so I think this may be a good time for trading.

It’s been a bit slow these past few days getting a trade, so  I posted on the MSNBC Facebook page that we are willing to take items if people want to give to a good cause if they think they are leaving earth tomorrow. 😛

I think we all may have some good items being offered to us now.

If we truly are not here tomorrow… Thank you all for some great fun at toothpicktrader.com!

Otherwise, the game continues!

Toothpick Trader Game: Trade Up on Day 4

keychain bottle opener

The day seems quiet while very little trading opportunities present themselves.. you can hear crickets chirping! Seems most of us are caught up in our daily routines and schedules.

With some encouragement… Judy Peters makes a move and has her first trade from a toothpick to a bottle cap opener keychain. Congrats Judy!

That reminds me, I have to stop at the store and get some refreshments for later.

I’m sure someone out there is having troubles opening bottle cans with their teeth and this bottle opener key chain will definitely come in handy. Judy shouldn’t have troubles convincing people this is a good trade to save their teeth.

Toothpick Trader Game:

The Saga Continues…

the game picks up momentum…

monopoly playing card gameAs previously mentioned Dan Brezgel traded his Barbeque Sauce packet for a real cool pack Monopoly playing cards.

You can actually play the Monopoly game off these cards. No game board? Very Nice..

Wonder if our toothpick trader game will be made into a board game or Facebook games like “FarmVille Virtual World”?

What do you think?

knife and knife standA few hours later Dan traded the Monopoly Card Game to a really cool “Rambo” type knife with stand! Thanks to Sean Gleason… and NO there is no relation to the famous Jackie Gleason – I had to ask!

Sean is a true game player and he loves card games, so this was a perfect addition to his collection!

In another area of town in a local bar…

Book of Matches

Gustavus Garcia had a couple of trades happen within minutes.

Gustavus was able to trade his “Marquette University” pen for a book of matches.

LighterThen, he was able to trade the book of matches for a lighter – Go Figure!

Gus mentioned, “Well, turns out the woman in the pic traded her husbands lighter for that book of matches (go figure as well). He wanted it back so i ended up with this Captain Morgan t-shirt.

Toothpick Trader Game:

Day 2 of the challenge

Late in the night and possibly early this morning somewhere between a drink or six…

Gustavus Garcia made his first trade from a toothpick to a “Marquette University” pen.

Marquette pen tradeYou can see the toothpick was hidden inside a plastic (knife) bag for added protection.

Did my first trade. Got a “Marquette University” pen…

My customer told me it is a very good pen.

When she saw one of these at school she would take it.

Like everyone i think that no one holds on to bad pens if they can help it.

It is quite annoying to have a shitty pen!

While we all were not expecting it,

Angela Iverson got busy with 3 trades, one right after the other!

blue flashlightAngela’s first trade was from a toothpick to a blue mini flashlight thanks to Brian Chambers (photo below).

See that blue blur in the photo? That’s the flashlight.

Nice… you can even attach it to your keychain.

Although would you really?

Someone would have to have really big pants to fit this in their pocket without being uncomfortable or an uncomfortable moment.

Angela’s next trade was a 6 inch hourglass thanks to Jessica Koller.

hourglassThis is a very classy piece and you don’t need a battery.

Angela says “I am on my way to the Golden Toothpick!”

If she keeps trading this fast she may be right.

We better get moving to keep up.

Soon after this Angela traded Jim Goelz for a 10 year old collectible Coke bottle.

That evening…

Dan Brezgel traded his Barbeque Sauce packet for a real cool pack Monopoly playing cards.

Toothpick Trader Game Begins

Let’s get started!

Handed out the toothpicks and a couple extra samples for us to enjoy as we began the game.

Birchwood Tea Tree Infused Toothpicks

They actually taste really good. These toothpicks have a very strong flavor… it definately cleared up my stuffed nose today!

Somewhere in a distant land 2 trades were made around 9 & 10 pm CST.

Sutton Kinter IV made the first trade from a toothpick to a Chumlee golf ball thanks to Brad Stolper.

Chumlee appears on the popular History Channel TV Show called “Pawn Stars”.

Pawn Stars Chumlee Golf Ball

I love that show!  Always some really interesting items that come thru the door that people want to sell or pawn in Vegas.

Hmm maybe they need gambling money?

Go figure right!

I also got a trade right away since I was anxious to start playing this game…

Barbeque Sauce Trade

Dan Brezgel traded from a toothpick to a McDonald’s BBQ Sauce packet thanks to Kurt Kilzer.

So this BBQ sauce really looks good and I’d love to use it for my Chicken for lunch…

but I have to stay on course for the next 90 days and keep getting a bigger or better item. I hope I find someone before a break open the seal and eat this for myself. 🙂

What is the Toothpick Trader Game?

It’s a 90 Day Trading Challenge inspired by Kyle Macdonald and his one red paperclip project.

7 of us got together and decided to create our own personal game for fun.

I’m not exactly sure how it all came together other than the thought that it would be really cool if we ended up with a million dollars, or at least a really neat item we could keep for ourselves.

Either way who cares, we just wanted to have a good time.

We decided to start a competition to see what item we end up with in 90 days by trading up from a “Tea Tree Oil” infused toothpick to whatever bigger or better item we could get!

The goal is to be the player with the highest valued item at the end of the game.

Here is the “Tea Tree” Toothpick each of us started the game with.
